Top Exercises For Better Prostate Health: Read Or Miss Out

The prostate is a gland below your bladder that produces a fluid that makes up the semen. Generally, most men suffer from prostate-related issues as they grow older. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostatitis, and prostate cancer are some of the possible prostate issues you may experience. Typically, the prostate continues growing over one's lifetime. Therefore, an enlarged prostate could affect urination or cause problems with your sexual function. That's why it's imperative to prioritise your prostate health.

Exercising is one of the many ways to improve your prostate (and overall) health and reduce the risks or symptoms of prostate-related conditions. With that in mind, here are exercises for a healthy prostate.

Kegel/Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercises

Kegel and pelvic floor muscle exercises seek to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles that support your bladder, the small intestines, and the rectum. These exercises can go a long way in improving your prostate health. An enlarged prostate can cause urination problems, especially if you have BPH. Sudden urges to urinate, difficulty urinating, pain and discomfort when urinating, etc., are some of the urination problems you may experience. And by strengthening your pelvic floor muscles with Kegel exercises, you can better control your urine flow and manage other symptoms of BPH and other prostate-related issues.

Kegel and pelvic floor muscle exercises are usually simple. For Kegel exercises, all you need to do is squeeze the muscles you would use to hold back urine for a few seconds before releasing. Doing this repeatedly for a few sets every day can help strengthen your pelvic muscles and give you better bladder control. Other pelvic muscle exercises may include bridges, wall squats, and lunges.

Yoga

Yoga can also be good for your pelvic floor muscles, helping you manage the symptoms of an enlarged prostate. Some yoga poses are ideal for releasing pelvic tension around your prostate while helping strengthen your pelvic floor. Some yoga poses worth trying include the Cobbler's Pose, Hero Pose, Bow Pose, Head-to-Knee Pose, Reclining Big Toe Pose, and the Shoulder Stand.

Aside from releasing tension in your pelvic region, yoga exercise can also help reduce stress, ideal for managing symptoms of prostate-related conditions like BPH.

Aerobic Exercises

You can also try aerobic exercises to improve your prostate health. Aerobic exercises are typically good for your heart and other body organs like the prostate. And you can choose from a range of aerobic exercises, including swimming, cycling, running, jogging, and hiking.

Living with Crohn's Disease

When I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease ten years ago, there was so much information about the condition for me to try and absorb. It was a confusing time, but over the years, I've learned a lot about this illness and the treatment options that are available. I started this blog to share my personal journey of trying various prescription drugs and undergoing bowel surgery in a bid to bring about disease remission. I also post about complementary therapies I have used to ease my symptoms, such as homeopathy and reflexology. I hope you find my blog interesting and useful.
